K-9 Bruder

The Plymouth Police Department implemented a K9 within their ranks in April 2011. The complete funding of the program is comprised of donations from business, residents and fundraising events.

Bruder is a male German Shepherd born on February 15, 2011. Bruder is a dual purpose police patrol and narcotics dog.  Bruder was born and bred by Vom Haus Mansfield located in Merrimack, NH. Sgt. Newcomb went to Vom Haus Mansfield to hand select Plymouth Polices first K9. Sgt. Newcomb choose Bruder from 7 other puppies (3 male and 5 female). Bruders original name was "Darius", but Bruder, meaning brother in German, was by selected Sgt. Newcomb’s family.

Sgt. Derek Newcomb and his K9 partner Bruder underwent extensive training with the New Hampshire State Police (NHSP) K9 Academy. In January 2012, Bruder was the only K9 who was raised from a puppy by his handler to pass the screening process for the 2012 NHSP K9 Patrol School.

In March 2012, Sgt. Newcomb and Bruder began a sixteen week NHSP K9 Patrol School. Upon completion Bruder was a certified police K9 in the State of New Hampshire in accordance with New England State Police Administrators Conference (NESPAC). Bruder’s patrol functions are: Tracking, Obedience, Tactical Obedience, Evidence Recovery, Building Searches and Criminal Apprehension. Since being on the road Sgt. Newcomb and Bruder have handled many calls for Plymouth and neighboring towns.

In September 2012, Sgt. Newcomb and Bruder attended an eight week NHSP K9 Narcotic School. Upon completion Bruder is trained and certified to detect six different narcotics in compliance with the NESPAC standards.

Bruder loves going to work to assist his fellow officers in catching criminals. In his off time Bruder loves spending time at home with his handler, family and two other dogs.

The Plymouth Police Department would greatly appreciate any donation given to support the maintenance and equipment expenses associated with the K9 Program.
